Video 7.10. Hornblower’s Sign
Full description
The examiner has the patient seated with her right shoulder in approximately 90 degrees of abduction and the elbow in 90 degrees of flexion. The examiner passively externally rotates the shoulder to about 90 degrees. The examiner then releases the arm while having the patient attempt to hold the position. The patient is unable to hold the position, recoiling into internal rotation. Therefore, the test is positive, which suggests dysfunction of the teres minor muscle.
